Delta Force, also known as the 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment-Delta (1st SFOD-D) or Task Force Green, is an elite counter-terrorism Special Missions Unit under Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) of the United States Army.
Origins and Training
Formed in 1977 in response to the Munich Massacre, Delta Force is considered a tier-one counterterrorism unit tasked with capturing or eliminating high-value targets and dismantling terrorist organizations. Its members undergo rigorous selection and training, including advanced marksmanship, combat tactics, and unconventional warfare techniques.
Joint Operations
Delta Force collaborates with other elite units, such as the Intelligence Support Activity (ISA), DEVGRU SEAL Team 6, and the 24th Special Tactics Squadron of the Air Force, to conduct complex and highly sensitive operations.
Notable Operations
Delta Force has participated in numerous high-profile operations, including the rescue of hostages in Mogadishu, Somalia (Operation Gothic Serpent), the capture of Saddam Hussein in Iraq (Operation Red Dawn), and the raid on Osama bin Laden's compound in Pakistan (Operation Neptune Spear).
