In the high-altitude conditions of Mexico City at the 1968 Olympic Games, Jim Hines soared to victory in the men's 100m race, becoming the first person to break the 10-second barrier. With a time of 9.95 seconds, Hines set a new world record and secured the gold medal.
Lennox Miller of Jamaica claimed the silver medal with a time of 10.04 seconds, while Charlie Greene of the United States finished just behind with a bronze medal-winning time of 10.07 seconds.
