England beat Switzerland 2-1 at Wembley

Kane penalty gives England victory

Embolo opens scoring for Switzerland but Shaw levels

England began their World Cup preparations with a 2-1 comeback victory over Switzerland at Wembley Stadium which extended their unbeaten run to six matches.

Breel Embolo gave the visitors a shock lead after just 22 minutes, but Luke Shaw levelled just before half-time.

Harry Kane then scored the winning goal from the penalty spot in the second half to move level with Sir Bobby Charlton on 49 England goals.

The Three Lions will now face Switzerland in the quarter-finals of the World Cup on Saturday.

England manager Gareth Southgate was pleased with his team's performance, saying: "It was a good test for us. Switzerland are a good side and they made us work hard for the win."

Switzerland coach Vladimir Petkovic was disappointed with the result, but praised his team's effort.

"We played well for long periods of the game," he said. "But we made a few mistakes that cost us in the end."

Conclusion: England's victory over Switzerland was a timely boost for the team ahead of the World Cup. The Three Lions showed their character by coming from behind to win the match, and they will be confident of making a strong impact in Qatar.
